"Allah has no son" sign in Nazareth

E-mail Print

Christians are downplaying the confrontational banner hanging in front of the Basilica of the Annunciation (where, according to Catholic tradition, Mary received the news that she would bear a son conceived by the Holy Spirit). Muslims have hung a sign quoting the Qur'an saying “In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful, Say (O Muhammad): He is Allah, (the) One and Only. Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute. He begetteth not, nor was begotten, and there is none like unto him." Sura 112:1-4

The belief that Jesus is the eternally begotten Son of God is central to Christianity, no other doctrine is more central to Christians.
